How does the ADHD assessment process work?

What happens once my ADHD medication is stable?

Once your medication and dose are considered stable, you can discuss longer-term prescribing arrangements with your psychiatrist.Where appropriate and where your GP agrees, Vera Mental Health can arrange a GP shared-care transfer so that ongoing prescriptions can be managed through your GP.There is no additional Vera Mental Health fee for arranging the GP shared-care transfer once medication stability has been established and this has been agreed with your psychiatrist.

What if I do not want to transfer prescribing to my GP?

If you remain under the clinic for prescribing and no medication adjustment is required, a repeat prescription may be issued where clinically appropriate.The fee for a repeat prescription is €25 per prescription.A repeat prescription is not a substitute for a clinical review where the psychiatrist considers that an appointment is required.

Can my medication dose be increased by email?

No.Medication dose adjustments, changes to the titration schedule, changes of medication and other prescribing decisions require appropriate clinical review with the prescribing psychiatrist.Administrative staff cannot provide clinical advice or approve medication changes by email.

Can I choose which ADHD medication I want?

You are encouraged to discuss your preferences, previous experiences and any concerns about medication with your psychiatrist.However, the final prescribing decision is made by the psychiatrist based on your clinical presentation, medical history, cardiovascular screening, potential risks and expected benefits.

Do I need an ECG before starting ADHD medication?

Not every patient will necessarily require an ECG.All patients proceeding towards medication treatment are asked to complete appropriate cardiovascular screening. Depending on your medical history, symptoms, medications, family history or cardiovascular findings, the psychiatrist may request an ECG or additional medical assessment before prescribing.

Yes.If you already have an ADHD diagnosis from another provider and are seeking medication treatment through Vera Mental Health, you will need to book an Already Diagnosed ADHD Consultation with a Consultant Psychiatrist, which costs €450.Before the appointment, you will be asked to provide your existing ADHD diagnostic report and any relevant clinical documentation for review.During the consultation, the psychiatrist will review your existing diagnosis, current symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, previous or current ADHD medication, and any relevant cardiovascular information. The psychiatrist will then determine whether the existing diagnosis can be clinically accepted and whether medication treatment through Vera Mental Health is appropriate.If medication is initiated, you will then need to attend medication follow-up appointments with the prescribing psychiatrist as part of the titration process. The first three medication follow-up appointments are €220 each, and if further titration is required after these, subsequent follow-up appointments are €150 each.Medication prescribing is subject to clinical suitability and may require cardiovascular screening, baseline observations, an ECG, or additional medical information where indicated.
