Areas Commonly Addressed Family therapy may be helpful when families are experiencing: - Ongoing conflict or communication breakdown - Parenting challenges or disagreements - Adjustment to life transitions (e.g., relocation, separation, illness, loss) - Emotional or behavioural difficulties in a child or adolescent - Stress affecting the family system as a whole - Boundary or role-related tensions - Difficulties related to school, social, or developmental concerns - Family responses to mental health challenges Therapeutic Approach Interventions are tailored to the family’s needs and goals. Evidence-based systemic approaches may include: - Structured communication and problem-solving techniques - Systemic formulation of relational patterns - Parenting guidance and psychoeducation - Emotional regulation and conflict management strategies - Strength-based and solution-focused interventions The therapist facilitates balanced participation, ensures that each member’s perspective is heard, and supports constructive dialogue in a safe and respectful environment. Clinical Principles Family therapy is conducted in accordance with professional ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and evidence-based practice. The therapist remains neutral and works to support the wellbeing of the family system as a whole. Where additional individual or specialist support is indicated, appropriate recommendations will be discussed.
